Children in harmful tobacco farming

Children in harmful tobacco farming

“Farm labor is incredibly taxing on the human body. Performing manual labor in harsh conditions outdoors leads to a wide range of injuries and health problems for adults. But today, there are thousands of children working on tobacco farms in Indonesia, and the impacts on their health is even more devastating.

Some of these kids are just eight years old. Like most farmworkers, they’re exposed to toxic pesticides in the fields and forced to mix chemicals in the plant. Combined with exposure to nicotine, many of the kids become sick with nausea, dizziness, and nicotine poisoning.”
